Life with the P's

DIY Headboard

Yes, everyone is doing it. Yes, we had to join the party! We purchased a dresser and night stand from Ashley Furniture for our main guest room, but the bed was just too much money. We couldn’t justify $700-$900 on a spare bedroom bed only. The $100 or so for wood and fabric for a DIY headboard sounded much more wallet-friendly. And here is our finished product:

Our original intention was to tuft the headboard using instructions by Addicted2Decorating and wanted an end result that somewhat resembled this:

And I found a headboard shape guide at Topline furniture and picked out the one we I liked:
Below are some in progress pictures. Since we are always too involved to stage and take better pictures keepin it real, I thought I would point out the other items in the picture are are unrelated to this project.

I didn’t get a picture of the foam, but we used 2″ foam on the headboard first. Then we wrapped the fabric around it and stapled it to the back of the MDF board. The legs didn’t turn out all that great, but you won’t really see them anyway. We didn’t want to hang the frame on the wall and wanted it to be transportable, hence the legs that attach to the frame. I can’t wait to put this room together. At least writing about this has encouraged me to paint those staircase spindles so that we can get carpet upstairs and put this room together!!!!!!!
The headboard is officially Max approved:
